E3 EXCLUSIVE: Game Journalists Practicing Surprised Faces in Mirror for PSP Go Announcement

After Saturday’s leak of a Qore episode proving the existence of the PSP Go, games journalists attending E3 have found themselves in an awkward position. With Sony’s press conference still over a day away, and everything from a video demo to full specifications leaked online, journalists from a number of outlets are quietly worrying how exactly they will be able to look surprised when Sony announces the damned thing.
A journalist for UGO, speaking under condition of anonymity, told us this morning that he’s “been doing mouth exercises since Sunday afternoon. We’re in for three closed-door demos with Sony – those dry up the second we shrug and nod when they announce that shiny turd. If I can’t get a good gasp off, at the very least, I won’t be able to spend any time with MAG.” He then made an obscene gesture towards his crotch.
Sony is sure to see negative effects from the leak of the Go, not the least of which will be the dulled response to their announcement during their E3 keynote. A source high up at Sony said, “The only thing that didn’t leak in that fucking video was the price. So at least we’ve got one trick up our sleeve. Unfortunately, we’re still Sony, and it’s $349 at launch.”
Many journalists are concerned about their ability to show any emotion at all. Jeremy Parish of 1up.com told us, “I haven’t smiled in over 15 years, since I played Mega Man 6 and forever lost my innocence. Now what am I supposed to do? I wasn’t going to show emotion for that horrible piece of crap to begin with. I guess I’m just going to have to close my eyes, think about Super Mario Land, and hope they don’t notice.”
Experts in the field said that if the PSP Go had actually been an exciting or interesting product, journalists might have been able to force a more enthusiastic reception. Unfortunately, they added, the system appears to be an unapologetic attempt to screw PlayStation fanboys out of another couple hundred bucks.
