Friday, 03/12/10

How many times did this conversation about the t-shirt take place over the course of the two and a half hour party in Sheila’s backyard? A dozen times, at least. Friends, family, the hired help – no one was spared the explanation. Those who made the mistake of lingering near the drink table rarely returned, and those who did did so hastily, as if a horde of wild animals was about to stampede through and there was only two minutes to pour a vodka cranberry.

Starman Arrested for Domestic Abuse

Starman, best known for his role in the Mother series, has once again run afoul of the law after he was arrested Sunday on charges of attacking his girlfriend, 22-year-old Danielle Hitchley, Reuters reports. A police report claims that Mr. Starman pushed Hitchley to the ground during an argument in the celebrity’s Los Angeles apartment. Hitchley, who works at a local hospital, said that the popular villain was abusing drugs at the time.

Mr. Starman graduated from the prestigious Juilliard school in 1985 and quickly made a name for himself in several off-Broadway plays, most notably as “Biff” in the 1987 revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, where he was discovered by Mother creator Shigesato Itoi.

The nineties brought much success to Mr. Starman, who legally changed his name to that of his most famous character in 1992, but the actor fell on hard times after the long, painfully drawn-out cancellation of Mother 3 for the Nintendo 64 in 2000.

The 38-year-old Starman appeared Monday in court for a bond hearing and was released on personal recognizance. Mr. Starman, who recently hosted the Colorado Independent Video Game Creators Awards, served a six-month sentence in 2003 for owning several multi-bottle rockets without a permit. If convicted on this domestic abuse charge, Mr. Starman faces a $2000 fine and 60 days in jail.
